Tips & Tricks to help your Students to use Ready Skills effectively

For your Students sometimes starting off can be a bit hard, so this article will aim to assist you with some good techniques/processes you can put in place to make sure your students use Ready Skills to the best of their ability.

Regular Activity -

  • Allow a regular time each week when the student can log their activity.
  • Entries should be done daily or weekly
  • Regular recording of activity ensures more accurate entries
  • Approving their entries promptly provides students satisfaction in knowing they are progressing

App for phone or tablet -

The App is the quickest and easiest way for most students to add entries

  • Once a student is logged in they can add entries with or without Wi-Fi
  • Saved weeks can be uploaded when Wi-Fi is available
  • When a week’s entry is completed the student selects the most suited Supervisor to approve for the entry approval (they may choose more than one)
  • Once Request Approval is selected, they can begin to log a new week

Use the same device all week -

A student should use one device to record all their entries for one week.

  • Either do all entries on App or all on browser
  • The mobile app will only sync with the web when a week is completed

Supervision Levels -

The following is a guide to supervision levels

  • Full: ranges from assisting someone else to having someone standing by, giving instruction & assistance
  • Partial: instructions provided with regular checks on progress
  • Minimal: the task is completed with minimal assistance or instruction

Amending entries -

  • Any entry that has not been approved yet can be edited by the student as only the apprentice/trainee can amend entries
  • To edit an entry, an apprentice/trainee must log in to the browser version and go to their Profiling History page

Icons displayed -

The icons that a student sees will vary depending on the elective units selected in their training plan.

If the student is not seeing icons that match their workplace activity, it may be because

  • They do not have the right elective units chosen for the work being undertaken
  • Additional icons need to be added to cover the range of tasks undertaken as part of their training in the workplace

In both these situations, you should discuss this with the Training Organisation/TAFE.

Alternatively, it may be that the scope of their work includes additional activity beyond the qualification being undertaken. No action needs to be taken provided that the student is receiving adequate experience in the tasks related to their Training Plan.

Simulated Tasks -

Students may log activities carried out in the simulated environment of the Training Organisation/TAFE

  • This provides information for you regarding tasks done off the job
  • You will still approve these entries together with workplace activity

Forgotten Passwords -

Passwords are encrypted and cannot be retrieved from the system.

If a person forgets their Username or Password, they can use the Forgotten Password feature.

It matches the email submitted with accounts in the system and sends an email with new log-on details.

Where more than one user is registered to the one email address, the Forgotten Password will not be able to reset the password and the Training Organisation/TAFE should be contacted to reset the Password.

Personal Details -

Encourage students to keep their personal details up to date by updating the information under the My Details tab (in the browser only).
